It is already one of the UK’s most important economic sectors, with 250,000 firms employing more than two million people and representing, according to the DTI, eight per cent of gross domestic product (GDP).

The main IT project at construction and services group Carillion is integrating the Alfred McAlpine business. The acquisition was completed in early 2008 and is transforming the business, with the IT infrastructure at Alfred McAlpine being brought into the Carillion group IT.
